Learning, LinkedIn & Lawyers

5/23/2016

Last week Ashleigh and Erin had the pleasure of attending a continuing professional development session presented by Eva Chan, Social Media Strategist, Consultant and Trainer for Legal Professionals. We love learning from Eva.  Her experience as a lawyer who spent over 10 years in practice gives her such great perspective and insight.  The session, “Professionalism and Practice Management Concerns When Optimizing and Managing Your LinkedIn Presence”, focused on tips and traps for using LinkedIn as a marketing tool. Highlights of the session included best practices to promote your services and generate leads using this social media platform (i.e. have an informative ‘headline’ and a public profile so it shows up on Google) and how to avoid common mistakes (not having a photo, not updating your profile, treating LinkedIn like Facebook). Eva also reminded us that as lawyers using LinkedIn, we must abide by our Rules of Professional Conduct. For further information on this topic, see the article written by Erin, “Professional Reminders for the ‘Social’ Lawyer”.  If you are looking for ways to optimize your use of LinkedIn to promote your law practice, or are interested in improving your social media presence in other ways, consider subscribing to Eva’s newsletter to be notified of her upcoming offerings.

Speaking of offerings, Flex is excited to announce that we are launching a new education and development program for lawyers. Our first Learning Series will focus on a lawyer's presence in the marketplace, with presentations on using social media, networking, and branding. For our first session we have partnered with Eva Chan to present “The Versatility of Social Media for Lawyers”which will be held on June 23, 2016.
