What We Collect

“Personal Information” is information in any form which can be attributed to an identifiable individual, but does not include business contact information, such as your name, title or position, business address, telephone number, facsimile number, or e-mail address. Flex Legal Network (“Flex” or “we” or “us”) is committed to maintaining the accuracy, security and privacy of your Personal Information.

We collect and maintain different types of Personal Information in respect of individuals with whom we interact. For our Flex law firm, lawyer, or in-house department clients, in addition to collecting your business address and telephone number, and business email address, we will collect information about the legal work you need assistance with but not including your own client(s)’ confidential or privileged information. 

For our freelancers (or potential freelancers) we may collect: contact and identification information, such as your name, address, telephone number and e-mail address; client relationship information such as client requests and feed-back and information requested or provided by or from you; and business relationship information, including information related to your agreements with Flex clients.  In order to match our clients with freelance lawyers and law clerks we may also collect: your resume or c.v. information such as your employment history, clients/transactions lists, academic history and transcripts; your billable rate or flat fees or other remuneration information; and correspondence between potential freelance lawyers and Flex. We may also collect market-related information, which may include Personal Information, concerning market trends and activities impacting our business and information related to our media and public relations activities. 

Website Visitors

For visitors to our Web site, we may use cookies to collect non-personal information such as the type of Internet browser and operating system used by you, the domain name of the website from which you came, the date and duration of your visit, number of visits, average time spent on our Web site, IP address associated with your computer, pages viewed and number of cookies accumulated. Cookies are small browser features stored on the hard-drive of your computer which are used to track and collect information concerning your visit to our Web site. This information is only used for the technical performance of the Web site (including but not limited to ensuring the security of the Web site).

How We Use Your Personal Information

We collect personal information to enable us to manage and develop our business and operations, including: to establish, maintain and manage relations with you so that we may provide you with, or receive from you, the products and services that have been requested (for example, we will use your personal information to determine your suitability for a position as a freelance lawyer); to be able to review the services that we provide to you so that we may understand your requirements for our services and so that we may work to improve our services; to be able to inform you of our services other than those that you have specifically requested, including sending you information promoting our other services; to be able to comply with your requests (for example, if you prefer to be contacted at a business or residential telephone number or e-mail address and advise us of your preference, we will use this information to contact you at that number or e-mail address); to protect us against error, fraud, theft and damage to our goods and property; to enable us to comply with applicable law or regulatory requirements; and any other reasonable purpose to which you consent. 

We will not disclose your Personal Information to any third party to enable them to market their products and services. We may engage with unaffiliated third parties that are under contract to perform services for or on behalf of Flex (“Service Providers”), and are required to uphold and maintain policies with respect to privacy and the treatment of your Personal Information (e.g. Customer Relationship Management services). Any access to such information will be limited to the purpose for which such information was provided to us or our Service Providers. Service Providers are located throughout the world. Accordingly, your Personal Information may be stored in servers in countries which have a different level of privacy protection than Canada.

Use of Electronic Communications
We would like from time to time to send commercial electronic communications (such as emails), with publications, announcements, event invitations, and other information, to subscribers, individuals with whom we have a commercial relationship, and individuals with whom we have a business or personal relationship. We have reasonable security measures in place to prevent the loss, misuse, and alteration of Personal Information, but we make no assurances about our ability to prevent any such loss, misuse, to you or to any third party arising out of such loss, misuse, or alteration. However, due to the nature of the Internet, we cannot completely ensure or warrant the security of your Personal Information or any other data or information transmitted to us or through our services; therefore, submitting Personal Information, data or other information to us is done at your own risk. Submitting contributions or information on or through our website is done entirely at your own risk. We make no assurances about our ability to prevent any such loss or damage to you or to any other person, company or entity arising out of your use of our services and you agree that you are assuming such risks.

Changes to our Policy:
We reserve the right, from time to time, to amend or change this Privacy Policy by posting such revisions to our Web site. Changes to the Privacy Policy shall be effective upon posting. In the event that any amendment affects the purpose(s) for which we collect, use or disclose your Personal Information, we will obtain any additional consent required from you under applicable privacy laws.
